Judy Koenig is a native Californian and attended California State College at Long Beach as an Art major. She left school in 1962 to raise a family, and for twenty seven years she worked as a cake decorator. In 1988 she finally returned to her passion and took up painting.
It was after all this that Judy returned to college to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree. She was launched on the road to becoming a professional artist, when in the middle of her studies, she joined a watercolor class.
Judy spends many hours composing and drawing. To achieve the deep and vibrant colors in her paintings, her technique requires many layers of thin washes and glazes of pure, transparent watercolor. Recently she discovered pastels and love to capture people in candid situations with this medium.
In 1996 Judy achieved her Masters of Arts degree. Since 1993 she has been teaching, and for a period, held the position of President of the California Gold Coast Watercolor Society. She is a signature member of Watercolor West, California Gold Coast Watercolor Society, and the Pastel Society Gold Coast. She is represented by Rosenthal Represents for commercial illustration and Haddad Fine Arts.
